Positive of Affirmative Actions
Whenever the intent is to even the playing field, to give everyone the same opportunity for growth in the workforce, it’s usually a safe bet that this is an advantage. There are main arguments for these policies “(1) compensatory justice – past injustice need to be undone and compensation should be given to those who were disadvantage as a result of discriminatory traditions…. (2) social goods and wealth of a country …. and common good for everyone. (3) and everyone in a society has something important to contribute” (Barak, 2014, p. 69). Given the poor history of this country with regards to discrimination in the workplace, having a policy in place that seeks to correct the wrong of the past is a benefit. Plus when the goal of the policy is to distribute wealth equally, allowing all the chance to be successful (regardless of gender, race, creed), the implementation of this policy serves all. Although it’s true people go into business to make money, and that should be the driving force for organizations not the politics of society. Without these laws are society would eventually corrode and the strains of discrimination, could erupt into a war of races that would be the demise of our society. While enforcing these polices there has to be more lead way, which allow for businesses who are trying to be diversified adequate time to hire or promote. I think when we are force to specifically promote based on race, or gender, we are doing a greater harm than good. I do think there should be programs that help educate those in less fortunate position, achieve the same educational levels as others. Although there are good and bad sides of this policy, I think with the right tinkering the goal of full equality can be achieved.
